WAVERLEY.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE (From tho ** Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent.) A meeting of the Waverley School committee was held on Monday evening in the Town Board rooms. There were present Messrs Spratt, (chairman), Currie, Christensen, Southcombe and Wallace, and the headmaster, Mr C. Browning. The question of the school picnic was discussed at some length, the committee eventually deciding in favour of a school excursion. Ngaere Gardens was mentioned as a suitable place for an excursion, and it was finally decided Io see what arrangements could be made for this trip. A committee consisting of the chairman, the secretary and the headmaster was set up, with power to act. Accounts totalling £23 14s 9d were passed for payment. The chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Warden, of the Wanganui East School and to the committee of that school for the excellent manner in which they had catered for the Waverley children on the occasion of the latter’s visit last year. He said that the children had spent a most enjoyable day. The motion was carried with acclamation. SCHOOL TENNIS COURTS. The. tennis courts at the school are practically completed and the contractors, Messrs McKenzie and Snow, of ; Wanganui, have made splendid courts. |lt is considered by exports that these are the finest hard courts to be seen anywhere in the country. The school children are fortunate indeed, and those who have subscribed can rest assured that the committee has spent the money wisely and well. SCHOOL TRIPS. The school trip to Wanganui East was the most enjoyable outing yet undertaken by the Waverley children. It was by way of a return trip to the (Wanganui East School and also to visit the Wanganui* woollen mills. Air Warden. headmaster of the Wanganui East 'School, kindly arranged details and went out of his way to give the country children the time of their lives. The Wanganui East scholars provided lunch, and after a game and a swim the parties visited the woollen mills. By the courtesy of the manager the whole of the mills machinery was seen in ae tion, and proved an eye-opener to all. The trip, besides being highly enjoyable, was of great educational value to the party.
