SCREECHING FIREFIGHTER
'TIKE RADIO STATIC* VIBRATION EXTINGUISHES FLAME. REVOLUTIONISING DISCOVERT. ' NEW YORK, Feb. B. Mr Charles Kellogg, a Californian scientist, gave firemen a demonstration of extinguishing a gas flame two feet high by sound and tonal vibration. Mi Kellogg passed a bow like an enlarged violin bow swiftly across an aluminium tuning fork, producing a screech like an intense radio static. Instantly the yellow flame subsided to six inches and became a spluttering blue flare. Another bowing completely extinguished it. Mr Kellogg claimed that in futrrrt buildings would have a scientifically de* termined pitch with a screech for ex> tinguishing fires tuned in from th< central firehouse, produced by a much larger bow. He said that the General Electric Company was experimenting.
