HOWICK HOUSE BURNED EARL GREY’S PALATIAL HOME JWO WINGS INTACT. Bt Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright. LONDON, Feb. 2. A fire early this morning destroyed the main building of Earl Grey’s palatial residence. Howick House, at Lps burv, Northumberland. Two wings are intact. A quantity of furniture and pictures were saved, but the fate of the valuable library and many art treasures is so far unknown. BARE WALLS STANDING A SCENE OF DESOLATION. FIREMEN LOST IN FOG. Received Feb. 4, 12.40 a.m. (Reuter; LONDON, Feb. 2. The fire at Howick House was helped by the fact that the fire brigade from thirty miles lost its way in the fog. Lady Grey, who was indisposed, was carried to a neighbouring house. Police and farm workers saved the most valuable furniture and goods in the lower rooms. Only the five feet thick stone walls remain of the central portion of the building.
