A SUPPOSED COACH CHAMPION ENGLISH BOWLER, DENIES REPORTED ENGAGEMENT \ LONDON, Feb. 1. Maurice Tate at the conclusion of the 1926 season will go to New Zealand to succeed Mr Jack Board in a coaching engagement. The 11 Daily Mail” says: “Tate will show New Zealanders what a real off-drive looks like.” Tate denies that he has accepted a coaching appointment in New Zealand. The report came as a complete surprise. He admitted that he had been tenta 4 tively approached, but even if definitely invited he was not certain whether he would be able to accept. IN THE SLIPS WEAKNESSES OF AUSTRALIANS LONDON, Feb. 2. Some critics regard Kelleway’s omission as an indication that the selectors have chosen the team in order to win three day matches. Kelleway’s methods, though admittedly sound, are not conducive to ending matches. Others regard the real weakness as not in bowling but in the slips, Gregory being the only first class slip. If Australia is relying primarily on googlies the weakness may not be accentuated.
