CALEDONION SPORTS NEXT SATURDAY’S BIG GATHERING RUNNING AND CYCLE HANDICAPS Some exceptionally good sport is promised the Wlanganui public next Saturday, when the Caledonian Society will conduct its annual sports meeting on Cook’s Gardens. The programme arranged is a comprehensive one, and covers all branches of athletic sports, as well as Highland dancing land piping events, which in themselves have a particular appeal. The energetic promoters of the fixture have left no stone unturned to ensue the success of the gathering, and are making a special feature of Catering for their patrons in every possible direction. Very satisfactory entries have been received for the athletic events, and competitors will be drawn from the surrounding districts of Hawerti, Marton, and Patca, as well as from "Wanganui itself. Amongst the competitors will be H. E. B. Newton, the promising local runner, who recently distinguished himself by winning the 440 and 800 yards event at the championships meeting at Wellington. The handicapper .(Mr George Benson) knows his business, and supporters of the fixture can rest assured th*at close and interesting finishes will be the rule in both the running and cycling events. Tn the latter department all the cracks will be out, including Keith Gray, who has recently returned to the track and is on the back mark.
