LISTENERS HOAXED BOGUS.WORLD TESTS INNOCENT ENTHUSIASTS DUPED. CARELESS OPERATOR BETRAYS HIMSELF. By Telegraph -Per Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 2, 11.45 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 1. Radio fakers in all parts of the United States, who announced themselves as broadcasting stations from Australia to Russia, had the time of their lives at the expense of listening fans during the international broadcasting test last week. Fully 25 per cent, of the persons reporting to the test officials that they heard distant stations were the victims of practical inkers a few blocks away, according to the statement of Mr. L. A. Nixon, of the Radio Week Committee, who cited instances of hoaxes perpetrated on innocent listeners. One person announcing himself as of Lyons, France, was heard as far east as Bermuda, but he overlooked the important point that Lyons did not ’ roadcast in Tennessee.
