AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

THE GRAND. TOM MIX IN ‘ ‘ THE LUCKY HORSESHOE. ’ > Tom. Mix evidently is reaching beyond straight western pictures for more fields to conquer, for he Mis given us recently “Dick Turpin,” which was a story of England’s famous medieval bandit, and now, in his latest release, "The Lucky Horseshoe,” which opened at the Grand Theatre last night, he gives us something else that is different from tho old-time, sterotyped “westerns.” While “The Lucky Horseshoe” may be classed as “western-plus,” it is the “plus” part that holds the element of surprise and delight for the Mix fans. This surprise consists of the dream or Spanish sequence, in which Tom drifts hazily from his. western surroundings to tho medieval life and habits of old Spain. To make matters even more interesting, Tom finds himself enacting the dashing and cavalier role of Don Juan, kidnapping fair ladies right and left and finally winding up by running away with the most beautiful of them all, Lady Isabel—most bewitchingly played by Billie Dove. After all sorts of fights, wild horseback rides, rescues and narrow escapes, in which ho is ably abetted by J. Farrell MacDonald as Pancho, Tom wins his heroine, only to have his dream fade out and disclose him a captive in the hands of the villain’s henchman, while the real girl, also played by Billie Dove, is about to be married to the villain, Malcolm Waite. So Tom had to start, to rescuing all over! The supporting pictures are a very fine lot and make up a splendid entertainment. The box plan for to-night is open at Moore's Sweet Shop.
