SWALLOWED UP BY SEA
BOTANY LOST 100 FEET. ROCKDALE ALARMED NOW. SYDNEY, Dec. 17. For years the Botany Council has been trying to stop erosion by the sea at Botany Bay, but all efforts have been unavailing. Slowly tho water is creeping inland, and property is threatened with destruction. The Council is seriously alarmed; and Government assistance has been refused. A 100 ft. reservation belonging to the Council disappeared. Still the Government turned a deaf ear. As a last hope, the Council begged the Minister for Lands to see the damage done. And there tho matter ended, aldermen Now the waters of the bay are creeping into Rockdale; and last night the Botany Council received a letter from the Rockdale Council, pointing out that the waters were eating away the foreshores, and asking Botany to co-operate in a deputation to the Minister for Land.
