FAT CATTLE AT BURNSIDE

SHEEP SHOW LITTLE CHANGE STORE CATTLE AND PIGS SELL WELL. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Oct. 21. At Burnside stock sale to-day fat cattle more than reached last week’s high prices. Sheep showed little change though heavyweight wethers were a shade easier. Store cattle and pigs sold well. Fat Cattle.—A yarding of 209 head compared with 240 head last week. The quality ranged from fair to prime, with a number of good sorts of cows. The opening demand was fairlv brisk and the sale continued at prices that’were somewhat higher than those of last week. Extra prime ox beef sold at from 65s to 67s 6d per 1001 b; medium quality, 60s; prime heifers and cows, 4. * to 50s. Extra prime bullocks made from £291 7s 6d to £3l ss; prime heavy bullocks. £26 to £2B 6s; lighter sorts, £l7 to £l9 10s. Prime Heifers sold at irom £l5 to £22 7s, and cows from £ll to £l9 Is 6d. Fat Sheep.—An entry of 1862 head, compared with 1611 last week. They were generally a good lot, comprising I heavy crossbred wether,,, with a sprinkling of plain to prime wethers and ewes. With but few butchers in attendance, there were some passings, and the sale continued slightly easier for medium weights, with extra heavy sheep about Is cheaper, and easino- further on the last race. Extra prime handy weight wethers sold at up to 7Jd per lb; prime extra heavy and medium quality wethers, to 7d; prime ewes, to 6d; and lighter and aged ewes, from 5d to 5-<i per lb. Extra prime heavy wethers made from 55s (id to 575; prime heavy, 47s fd to 525; lighter sorts, 40s to 465. Extra prime heavy ewes made from 44s to 45s 3d- prime 39s to. 425; lighter, from 375. ’ Spring lambs.—There were ten good spring lambs forward, and they sold under keen competition at prices ranging from 38s to 48s 6d, equal to Is 6d per lb.

Store Cattle.—About 100 were yarded, mostly medium sorts. A. dozen medium two-and-a-hnlf-year steers realised the good price of £9 19 s per head. Others sorts, particularly good conditioned cattle, met with a good demand. Pigs.—There were ninety-eight fats and ninety-eight stores penned. Prices were still high, baconers selling at from 9d to 9jd per lb. and porkers at 94d to Ofd.
