AVON. [Per Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 19. Air W. E. Leadley, Reform candidate for Avon, opened his campaign at New Brighton to-night. Nash, AI.P., spoke to a crowded meeting of Palmerston North electors to-night. He made a comprehensive review of Reform policy. In referring to fusion negotiations, he said he was convinced Reformers and Nationalists would eventually come together. He paid a tribute to the Nationalists’ efforts to fuse. There was simply a difference between the two parties that could not be overcome. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried. GISBORNE [Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, October 19. Air W. D. Lysnar, independent Reform candidate for Gisborne, opened his campaign to-night before a crowded audience. He said he leaned toward the Reform Party, and he had no alternative but to support Reform. There could be no denial that several trusts were operating in this country, and he believed Air Coates would keep his pledge to deal with them. He praised the Government for its stand on behalf of the producers in connection with the shipping strike, and said public appreciation of its action would be shown at the ballot box. He was ; hopeful next session would witness further reduction in taxation, and if that were done, he believed there would be no unemployment at all next winter. .Mr Lysnar devoted a large portion of his speech to condemnation of Red tactics in New Zealand, pointing out that the movement was a w T orld-wide one. He was standing on the same basis as at the previous election, and on no account would he vote against the Government to assist the Labour Party. A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation.
