SOLDIER SETTLER’S SUCCESS

(To the Editor). Sir. —Rp the returned soldier’s success which Mr Duggan is questioning. I might state that I never personally gave any information re my success or failure at farming to a representative of a daily paper, and did not contradict what was obviously an error, when it was stated that a soldier settler had cleared £BOO for the year, and I considered I am not the only soldier settler at Wangaehu whom tho statement might refer to. No claim is laid to clearing £BOO. That is my actual turnover, and quite a large amount of that is still sticking. One has only to know Mr John Duggan to be aware that if he followed the old adage about making two blades of grass grow where only one grew before, he possibly would be looking forward to a motor car. But it is just another case of “people with glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.’’ The motor car part of the article is quite in order, and it is not a secondhand Ford either; it will be tho real McKay. But I will continue to steer clear of “gold top,” not needing it to make me feel exhilarated, the bare fact that I am doing well being quite sufficient. There are a few other soldier settlers doing well in this locality, and the key to success appears to be work in every case, so there is no need to wonder how it is done. Others should try it.—l am, etc., A. McKAY. October 19, 1925.
