Miss M. E. Gebbie, who has just returned from a six months’ holiday in America, resumed duty at the Keith Street School yesterday.

Mr H. W. Beasley, assistant engineer in charge of the new railway yards and duplication work at Auckland, has been promoted to the position of district engineer at Wanganui.

Tlje Rev. T. Stinson, of Trinity Church, Timaru, has been nominated by the Christchurch Presbytery as Moderator of the General Assembly for 1926-27.

The position of Assistant-Controller of Savings Banks and Accounts, which became vacant on the promotion of Mr Edw’ards to the position of Controller of Savings Banks and Accounts, is to bo filled by Mr A. Marshall, who has been attached to the staff of the accountant’s branch for twenty-five years, and has held the position of assistant accountant for tho plast two years.

The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department announces the appointment of Mr M. B. Esson to the position of Chief Inspector. General Post Office, which became vacant on tho retirement of Mr R. D. Kelly. Mr Esson, who hhs thirty-six years’ service, has filled various controlling positions during the last seventeen years. He was appointed to the inspectorial branch in .1920, and has held the position of senior inspector for tho last four years.

A distinguished visitor arriving in Wellington on Thursday is General Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke, Bart., who served with distinction in 'the Maori War between 1861 and .1866. Sir Charles Clarke, who is 86 years of age, is accompanied by his niece, Lady Tomlin, wife of Mr Justice Tomlin, judge of the High Court. During his long and varied career Sir Charles Clarke served in the Zulu War, where he was promoted to the rank of brevet-colonel in 1879, and was Commandant-General of the Colonial Forces at tho Cape of Good Hope from 1880 to 1882. He was Commander-in-Chief and Lieijt.-General Commanding the Forces in Madras from 1893 to 1898, and Governor of Malta from 1903 to 1907. Tho distinguished soldier and his niece will visit relatives in Christchurch and North Canterbury.
