HUNTERVILLE.

HUNTERVILLE PIPE BAND. (From the “Chronicle’s" Special Correspondent). A meeting of ladies interested in the band’s proposed attendance at the Dunedin contest was held on Saturday. Various ways and means of raising money were discussed and it Was decided to assist every endeavour put forward by tho band. Owing to the Flower Show on November 24 it has been decided to postpone the band’s concert, which was to have taken place on November 20. The band played a number of selections in tho street on Saturday evening. There was U good crowd in town and the music was appreciated. GENERAL NEWS. If the present favourable weather continues tho official opening of the bowling club's 1925 season will take place on October 26 (Labour Day). Messrs A. G. Simpson (chairman), and S. A. R. Mair (engineer) of the Rangitikei County Council, left yesterday morning for Taihape, from which place they will leave with councillors of the northern ridings for Napier, on a tour of inspection.

Sunday was Y’oung People’s Day in the Presbyterian churches throughout New Zealand. At both services in Hunterville there ware large congregations to which appropriate addresses were delivered by tho Rev. J. C. Mill.

The fine weather experienced during the past few days h*as had a wonderful effect on the country in the vicinity of Hunterville. Grass is coming away rapidly and only on places that were severely overstocked is there a shortage of feed. Cows are coining on to their milk and the cream lorries are already carrying increased quantities of cream. Tho committee of the Athletic Club met last evening. Several matters of importance were dealt with. OHINGAITI DANCE. A most enjoyable dance, promoted by the Ladies’ Hockey Club in aid of the new hall fund, took place in Ohingaiti on Friday evening. Mr. W. Down provided the music in his usual capable style, while extras were played by Mr. R. Coleman and Miss Mitchell. A delightful supper was handed round and greatly contributed towards the social success of the evening. Mr. Asysinall, as M.C., was untiring in his efforts to ensure that everyone had a good time. A competition for an iced cake was won by Mrs. Jenson.
