SERVICES RECOGNISED AIR AND AIRS W. MEADS FAREWELLED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Residents of Rata and surrounding districts turned out in full force on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Air and Mrs W. ATeads on the eve of their departure for Taumarunui. The function, which took the form of a social and dance, was up to Rata’s high standard of sociability, the numerous vocal items being deservedly well received. Excellent music was provided for the dancing, and this, too. was appreciated by eager li trippers of the light fantastic.” The ladies again shouldered the responsibility of providing supper, and right loyally did they carry out their duties in this connection. That their efforts were appreciated was evidenced by Ihc many eulogistic comments to be heard throughout the hall. Just prior to supper, Mr E. Swainson, in well chosen words referred to the many services the guests of the evening (Mr and Mrs ATeads) had rendered in Rata. They had assisted every movement that was for the benefit of the district, and he felt he was safe in saying that their departure would leave a vacancy in Rata’s social sphere, that would be hard to fill. After further eulogistic reference to the high qualities of the departing guests, »Alr Swainson (on behalf of the residents), presented them with a beautiful set of easy chairs as a mark of the esteem in which they are held. He concluded by wishing them the best of health and prosperity in their new home. Air Meads suitably replied. He thanked them for their handsome present and assured the people of Rata that he would carry away happy recollections of his long term of residence in the district. The singing of “For they arc jolly good follows” was followed by cheers for Mr and Afrs Meads and also for their infant son. who was the recipient of a “Teddy Bear” from the young people of Rata.
