GARRISON BAND CARNIVAL

NOW RIGHT IN THE BOOM. Last night’s meeting of the Garrison Band Carnival executive was largely attended. Mr J. Coull occupied the chair. Reference was made to the brilliant success of last Saturday’s football gala day, and the Rugby Union’s liberality in providing everything free i of charge, which had resulted in the executive receiving a handsome cheque j towards the band’s funds. GARRISON BAND DANCE NEXT MONDAY. As the previous dance was such an undoubted success the ladies committee intend holding another dance in Harman’s Hall on Monday evening next. Tickets will be issued immediately, and all interested arc asked to liberally contribute to make this function as successful as its predecessor. GRAND BALL AT MANGAMAHU. A further big Garrison Band Ball will be held in Mr W. R. Kcllick’s woolshcd, Mangamahu, on Friday evening July 31. Mr and Mrs Kellick have generously given the committee their large woolshcd for the occasion, and this entertainment promises to be the ball of the season. Over twenty members of the Garrison Band will provide the music for the occasion, full details of which will be published later. GAMES AND COMPETITIONS. Mr C. G. Young, Convener of the Games Committee presented, a full schedule of games for the forthcoming carnival, opening on August 8 next. Many new varieties will be introduced, and as they have all been approved by the authorities, it is anticipated that they will provide many hours of pleasurable entertainment, for the large crowds who will nightly assemble, during the carnival week. THE BAND’S NEW CONDUCTOR. During proceedings Mr N. Meuli took the opportunity of presenting Mr Watson, the Garrison Band’s new conductor, to those present. Mr Meuli feelingly referred to Mr J. ('richton’s resignation as conductor lof the band, owing to continued ill health, and warmly welcomed Mr Watson to Wanganui.

Ilhe felt Air Watson would receive an excellent reception at the hands of the good people of Wanganui, and that he would have a thoroughly happy and successful sojourn here. Mr Watson, in a lew chosen words, very suitably responded, and expressed the wish that he would be capable of fulfilling all the pleasant remarks that had been said about him.
