AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING STRIKE

12,000 MINERS OUT OF WORK. SYDNEY, July 22. About 12,000 men engaged in the mining industry on the northern coalfields have been thrown out of work as the result of the shipping hold-up. It is likely, unless the trouble is soon settled, that operations on the mining areas will be brought to a complete standstill.

Respecting the proposal for a State shipping service, Air Lang says that ho had offers of numerous ships, adding that ample wharfage accommodation would be available to the State if needed. The Government was still in touch with other Labour Administrations throughout the Commonwealth o«. the subject of State-owned ships.
