J. C. NEWLANDS’ ENTERTAINMENTS. ST. PAUL’S HALL TO-NIGHT, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. The visits of J. C. Newlands, the world-famed British platform entertainer, to the various towns of the Dominion—which were unable to be included in last year’s itinerary, owing to the, time being limited, is looked forward to with much interest, and the residents of this city will have an opportunity of hearing this gifted artist at St. Paul’s Hall to-night, Friday, hnd Saturday, when programmes of exceptional merit will be presented. He has a genius of expression and develop ed technique, a whimsical sense of ihumour making it difficult to define tin* [charms of this entertainer. He | libs familiarised himself with the writings of Shakespeare, Charles Dicklens. Allan Poe, Barrie and many other [authors of prose and verse, and has the happy knock of so selecting his recitaj t.ions as-to present a most diversified programme, never dealing too long on one class of matter, and his frequent changes from grave to gay, gives an additional charm to his entertainments. In his dramatic pieces he shows with marked degree the same sense of light and shade. The box plans are open at Messrs H. I. Jones and Son’s, where seats may be reserved without extra chlarge. Special concessions are offered to students in parties of twenty and

over. Particulars of which may be obtained at the box office.
