WAVERLEY.
VALEDICTORY (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Saturday evening last about 3(1 friends gathered at Mr C. E. Lamont ’s residence to bid farewell to Mr J. Charters, who, for Sometime past, has been connected with the Farmers’ Co-Op. Organisation Society in Waverley, and has now been transferred to the society’s head office in Hawera. Mr J. E. Palmer, who occupied the. chair, spoke in glowing terms of Mr Charters’ qualities as a man land as a servant of the Farmers’ Co-op., where he had discharged his duties in a conscientious and courteous manner. He congratulated Mr Charters on his promotion and wished him every success in his new sphere. Then, on behalf of those present, he asked the guest to accept a set of carvers as a slight token of the esteem and goodwill in which he was held by his many friends in Waverley. The toast of “Our Guest” was then .duly honoured, with the singing of “He’s A .Jolly Good Fellow.” Messrs W. H. Watkins, P. Duffy, H. Hcginbothnm and Ollivcr also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Charters’ many good qualities. The guest, in reply, said he very much appreciated the presentation they had made him. He was sorry to leave Waverley, where he had met some very fine people. Other tobsts honoured wore: “Sports and Pastimes” (Mr Watkins); “The Chairman’’ (Mr Watkins); “Host and Hostess” (Mr Palmer). Songs were rendered during the evening by the following: Mr Sherbourne (3); Mr Johnston (2); Mr Anderson (2); Mr Stan Moore (2); Mr F. Marriott (2); Mr D. Walker (2).
