HUNTERVILLE.

BOWLING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent). The annual general meeting of the Huntcrville Bowling Club was held on Friday evening. Mr L. .T. Thompson presiding over a fair attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT The report (as appended) and the balance sheet were read:— Your committee have to report a small credit balance of £4 3s 4d on the season's working. An expenditure of £9 10s was incurred in transferring the niortagage to the overdraft account. During the season we lost one of our oldest members in the person of Mr AV. Howie. Mr Howie served four times as president and was also one of the guarantors. Always ready to give a helping hand he will be greatly missed. The Club was represented at the Taranaki Tournament and also at the Wanganui Centre Pairs Tournament, which Messrs Stevens and Kerr had hard luck in not winning, being beaten on an extra head. Air Kerr also represented the club at the Centre singles championship. The club holds the Rang.itikei Shield, beating Ohakune in the final in Taihape. An unsuccessful attempt was made to lift the Hurn Cup from Wanganui West. Three rinks from Wanganui Centre visited us and had a very enjoyable time, lluntervillc winning. At the invitation of the Marton Club two rinks assisted them along with two rinks from Bulls to play eight rinks from Gonvilln on the Marton green, the combined clubs winning. The club was also represented at the opening of the Bulls. Mangawcka and Marton greens. Home and away matches were also played with Marton. The club competitions resulted as follows: —

Championship Singles.—.l. Kerr (winner), IL Towers (runner-up). Championship Pairs. —L. J. Thompson and H. Towers (winners), Jas. Howie and R. P. Ansley (runners-up). Handicap Singles.—E. L. Ironmonger (winner), R. P. Ansley (runner-up). Only one game was played for the Hockley Ferns, the new rule of changing positions cxidently not meeting with approval. Tn conclusion your committee wish to thank the donors of trophies and also the ladies who so kindly prepared refreshments for cur own members and visitors. The report and balance sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Air A. G. Simpson; president. Mr Jas. Howie; vice-presidents, Messrs L. J. Thompson. W. E. Stevens. R. P. Ansley, selector, Air D. Chisholm; match committee: Messrs D. C. Chishalm, L. J. Thompson, and 11. Towers; green | committee: F. Petherick, J. Kerr, W. Wilson; green supervisor, Air F. PothI crick; secretary. Air H. Towers; audi- | tor, Mr 1. Brock; delegate to Centre, Mr F. Harkness; tea committee, Air AlcAlley. RESOLUTIONS. The following resolutions wore carried : “That the 'Ferns’ be for an open challenge competition under the original rules.” “That a penalty of 6d be imposed on any player whose bowl comes to rest outside a rink in club competitions. ’ ’ “That the match committee arrange games and rinks at 2.15 p.m. on AVednesdays the player’s name being put down in order of arrival on green.” “That a sole selector be appointed, the selector to be on the match committee. ’ ’ “That any member using bad language on the green be fined Is.” “That champion singles, handicap singles and champion pairs be played and the rules be strictly adhered to.” (The match committee will arrange games so that 25 per cent arc played each month and at least 75 per cent before the end of January). “That the tennis and croquet clubs be invited to meet the green committee to discuss the appointment of a caretaker.” |: “That a vote of thanks be accorded 1 to the retiring officers and donors of ' trophies, especially to the retiring president for the handsome shield.”

“That the green be opened on October 7.” GENERAL. Trophies were donated bv Messrs H. Towers, J. AVilson, and W. Stevens. Air J. M. Abel was elected a member. Correspondence was read with reference to the most suitable time for centre tournaments in the various centres and the recommendations received were endorsed. AIINIATURE RIFLE CLUB A further shoot for the President’s Cup took place on Monday evening. Scores were as follows: Laurie 7(1, Armstrong 68,‘A. Brant 68, Gordon 67, G. Stratford 67. F. Connelly 67. H. Brant 66. AV. Brown I. Hurley 62, Connell 61, C. Stratford 58. A shoot for the Alaclean Cup resulted:— Armstrong 50, Lourie 49, A. Brant 4S, Gordon 48, H. Brant 47, Hurley 47, G. Stratford 46, Connell 43, C. Stratford 42. Brown 41, Connelly 39.

GENERAL NEWS The local school boys football 1 ’am visited Ohingaiti on Saturday and suffered defeat at the hands of the boys in that centre. The scores were Ohingaiti 12 (tries by N. Burnett, AL Aloon (2), and AV. Todd); Huntcrvillc 6 (tried by AL and G. Fol las). A very enjoyable euchre party was held in the Anglican School-room on Tuesday evening. Prizes were won by Aliss A. AVatt and Air G. Stratford, while “consolations” were, awarded to Airs Brunton and Air A.rmstrong. At the Rata Dance on Friday evening Air A. H. Rhodes was presented with the coveted championship cup. which he recently Avon and which he will hold for one year. Air Templin (consulting engineer to the Electric Power Board) has definitely promised to have light turned on in Huntcrville on August 8 at the latest. It is probable that some small function j will be held to celebrate the turning ou of the “juice.” There was only a fair yarding of stock at the monthly stock sale on Tuesday. RATA RIFLE CLUB The, shoot-off for the Tisdall trophy again resulted in a tic, the scores with handicaps added, being:—

MONSTER DANCE AT RATA The dance, held in Rata on Friday evening under the auspices of the Defence Rifle Club was a huge success, visitors being present from a wide area. Excellent music was provided by the Marton Orchestra, -while not the least important item on the programme was the delightful supper provided bv the ladies. The duties of M’s.C/were. carried out by Afessrs A. R. Down, S. Gibbs, C. Green, C. McManaway and J. Pickford.
