NOVA SCOTIA

CANADA’S BEAUTIFUL PROVINCE FORTY- YE AJi - OLD GOVERNMENT EJECTED. (Special to “Chronicle.”) The beautiful province of Nova Scotia, after a period of some 40 years of Liberal government, has changed over to the Conservative party. Perhaps in modern times no government has ever enjoyed such a record. It is interesting to consider some cause for it. Prior to the confederation of the Dominion of Canada, about 1865, Nova Scotia enjoyed prosperous times. Since then she seems to have been exploited for the benefit, of the western provinces of the Dominion, and railway interests. This has had the effect of causing much 'of the young blood to seek their for-1 tunes in the large cities of the eastern United States, leaving only the older people behind to carry on. These older people did not seem to change their ideas in politics. Heavy taxation and mismanagement, together with the efforts of the various farmers’ unions, have done much to I bring about a change. Tho new Gov--1 ernment has no pleasant task before it, I for there will be much cleaning up and I straightening out to do, but it is hoped it will be equal to tho effort required of it. Nova Scotians in other lands will no duobt welcome the change, believing it to be a first step towards better times for their “Homeland down by the sea.” It mar not be generally known that Nova Scotia is the richest province in I the Dominion of Canada, containing alI most every variety of mineral wealth, together with considerable areas of rich agricultural and orchard lands, situated onlv some six or eeven days from tho British markets. Containing, as it does, some of the most beautiful scenery in North America, Nova Scotia is much sought after by Americans as a tourist resort, and a place of quiet after the rush of city life. The poet Longfellow tells much of the beauties of this delightful country. Perhaps there is no part of Canada so little known even to to Canadians themselves.
