WAVERLEY.
EGAIONT-WANGANUI HUNT CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) A “meet” of the above club was held at Mr E. Parsons ’ homestead, Waitotara, on Saturday, June 27. The hounds threw off near Mr Parsons’ house, “Puss” was hard to find, but eventually one was roused up and a good run was registered, but “Puss” eluded his pursuers by taking shelter in a boxthorn hedge. Soon another was put up on Mr C. Handley’s place, when one of the best runs seen for years took place, the horses jumping remarkably well, wire fence after wire fence being taken for fully an hour till “Puss” evenutally took to a lake and swam across, thus depriving the hounds of their well earned “kill.” At this stage darkness was falling and a return was made to Mr Parsons’ house, where the followers were most hospitably entertained by Mr and Airs Parsons.
Doctor Simmonds, master, thanked Mr and Mrs Parsons, also their neighbours, Messrs C. Handley, Ivan Johnston, G. V. Pearce and Antis, for allowing them to hunt over their properties.
Air Parsons, in reply, said it gave them great pleasure to have the huntsmen there. In commenting on the splendid jumping witnessed that day, Mr Parsons said it was particularly pleasing to see that the breeding of horses was still keeping up to a very high standard. The weather was wet, but a most enjoyable day was spent, only one empty saddle being seen during the afternoon. This, considering the fastness of the run, and the obstacles contended with, was a very creditable performance. Some of those seen out were: —Dr Simmonds, on Barham; Miss Gibson, on Grey Dawn; Aliss Beasley, on Ncfiche; D. Lupton, deputy master, on Frostymorn; S. McCrae, on Gilgai; 8. David son, on Silver; E. After the ceremony, the reception was held in the Waverley Town Hall, where Airs C. H. Southcmobe, attired in nigger brown frock, with hat to match, received her guests. Mrs H.
