PLAY AT WIMBLEDON LONDON, June 25. At Wimbledon the weather was sunny with a cool breeze. Owing to the interesting programme there were dense crowds before the start. The King and Queen were present part of the time. Anderson beat Spense 6-3, 8-10, 6-2, 6-3. Mayes beat Lucien Williams 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Gilbert defeated Garland 8-6, 6-1, 6Jacob beat Fotheringham (N.Z.) 6-2, 7- 6-0. Miss Harper beat Mrs Watson 6-2, 8Mdllc. Lenglen cut a clear path for the final, defeating Miss Ryan 6-2, 6-0. Miss Boyd beat Airs Pitt 6-2, 6-2. Miss St. George beat Miss Johnston 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the doubles Cole and Waekett boat Melody and Nicholson 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Nicholson let the New Zealanders down, though both gave their opponents frequent opportunities for smashes. Cole and Waekett put up a barrage at the net, through which the .New Zealanders were unable to break. Fotheringham was easy prey to the steady Jacob, whose groundwork was excelicnt. First round.—Misses Boyd and Utz beat Mcsdames Clayton and Tomlinson. Second round.—Miss Akhurst (Australia) beat Mrs Craddock 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
