WORLD’S BEST AIRCRAFT CARRIER LONDON. May 31. The Daily News says that Japan’s new aircraft carrier, the Akagi. is a vessel of 29,600 tons and 28 knots. She will accommodate 50 aeroplanes armed with ten 8-inch guns and sixteen 4.7 quickfirers. She is virtually a light battle cruiser besides an aircraft carrier. Her hitting power surpasses the British. French, and American cruisers now building. In the Akagi. like the cruiser Furutaka. the Japanese have trumped all rivals by increasing the fighting power to the tonnage and pro fluring «hip.s delivering heavier blows than other navies’ larger vessels. Britain’s largest aircraft carrier, the Eagle, is 4200 tons smaller and four knots slower, and has only nine 6-inch and six 4-inch guns.
