GO AHEAD SYDNEY

SYDNEY, Feb. 25. At a conference, of the representatives of the local governing bodies interested in the supplj' of electricity from the City Council, at which about 28 councils were represented, a motion was carried stating that the generation and distribution of electricity within the metropolitan area, other than what is required by the railway and tramway department, can best be handled by municipal enterprise without Government interference. The City Council at a special meeting approved the extension of Martin Place through to MacQuarie Street, and its technical officers were instructed to take the necessary steps to arrange for the extension. The Lord Mayor said he believed that the net cost to the council would not exceed £lOO,OOO.
