FAT CATTLE AT IMPROVED RATES. PRIME BULLOCKS 15/-' PER HEAD INCREASE. SHEEP AND LAMBS LITTLE CHANGE (Per Press Association) DUNEDIN, Feb. 25. Eat cattle sold at higher rates at, Burnside to-day, and an increase of 15s per head for prime bullocks is quoted. Sheep and lambs showed little change. Store cattle had a slow sale, and pigs were somewhat firmer. Sheep.—An entry of 2153 head. The yarding was a fair one. There were some nice ewes, while the proportion of prime wethers was good. The usual buyers were operating. The sale opened fairly well on prime sheep at about last week’s figures. The demand for freezing sheep was good, and ensured a steady sale, with generally some improvement towards the close. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 56s fid; prime heavy, 44s 3d to 495; lighter, 37s to 38s 9d. Extra prime heavy pwes j sold at up to 3.15; prime, 34s to 365; light and inferior, 23s 6d to 265. Lambs. —The number forward was 915. The entry was of very fair quality, though the. number of unfinished was fairly large, a lot of halfbred lambs indifferently drafted, being penned. There was a quiet opening at last sale’s rates. Demand was good for quality sorts, but slack for unfinished an’raals. Prime heavy made from 40s to 43s 9d; medium, 34s to 3fis 6d; unfinished, 27s to 31s. Backward graziers’ sorts made from 23s Cd to 265. Fat Cattle.—A yarding of 271 head. The yarding included some cattle of poor quality, though there was a fair proportion of good ones. I’rices ,for pirime bullocks were up about 15s. Early in the sale prime heavy bullocks sold at from £lO 15s to £l5 ss. and lighter. £7 to £8 15s. Prime, heifers made from £7 to £8 ss, and cows, £5 to £6 15s. Store Cattle. —A yarding of 300 head. The sale was a slow one. The entry comprised mostly young and old cows i in fair condition and young cattle. Pigs.— An entry of 140 fats, and 69 stores. Prices for porkers and baconers were up about ss.
