Sir Robert Cohen, K.8.E., who arrived in Wanganui yesterday in connection with the business of the British Imperial Oil Company, left for New Plymouth last evening. Private advice hns been received by Major-General Sir Alfred Robin to the effect that Lord Liverpool, a former Governor-General of Now Zealand, hopes to visit the Dominion in November next. In the House of Commons, Mr Chamberlain announced that the British Government nt present, was not sending an ambassador to Moscow. It was desirable to await fresh developments. Mr Samuel Hearst. Sengcr, the designer of the Chunuk Bair memorial, will represent New Zealand at the Town-planning Congress to be. held at ■ New York from April 20 to 25. Stevens, stationmaster at New Plymouth, has received advice of j this transfer on promotion to the posiI tion of stationmaster at Westport, and expects to take over his duties at an carlv date. Mr H. F. Mirams, traffic inspector for the Wanganui district, has been appointed stationmaster at Now Plymouth. Mr A. J. A. Roberts, Superintendent of the Telegraph Office, Wellington, retires on superannuation to-day after 40 years’ service. Mr J. Gillespie will be acting in the meantime. Mr Roberts was promoted from Wanganui in 1922, and earlier saw service at Palmerston North, Christchurch and Wellington. Air R. J. Coombes, president of the Australian and New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, and delegato to the International Olympic Council, arrived at Wellington from Sydney on Tuesday. -Mr Coombes is the well-known Sydney Referee critic, and he will be present at Ihe New Zealand Amateur Athletic championships at Wanganui tomorrow and Saturday. On the eve of their departure on an extended tour abroad, Mr and Airs J. T. Werry and the Misses Werry were entertained on Tuesday evening by the staff of AfcGruer’s (Wanganui) Ltd. Musical items were rendered by mem- j bers of the staff and dancing was in | dulged in. the entertainment being a , very enjoyable one. Hearty wishes for a pleasant voyage and a safe return ■ were tendered the guests. Air Worry returning thanks in happy vein. Last evening the members of the Pirate Football Club met to bid Mr C. A. Healey bon voyage on the eve of his departure to Australia with the All Black Eight. The vice-president of the club, Air R. J. Stevenson, in an appropriate speech, referred to the good qualities of Mr Healey as a sport both on and off the field, and wished him every success with the crew in Australia.. On behalf of the wiembers of the dull he presented the guest of the. evening with a solid leather suit case. Mr Healey suitably responded. ATr F. R. Callaghan, ALA. Chief Information Officer for New Zealand at the Wembley Exhibition, is returning to New Zealyand via Suez, and expects to arrive here in April. He has not been able 1o obtain an extend n of leave from his Department in Auckland, and consequently hns had to relinquish his duties at Wembley. Mr and Mrs Callaghan intend to spend a month touring through France, Switzerland, and Italy, and will join the 1 Orama at Naples on Alareh 13. A Palmerston North telegram announces the death of Mr Stephen Robert Lancaster, aged 63. the well-known Jersey cattle and Southdown sheep ■ breeder. He was one of the best known stock judges ami exhibitors in the Do- ’ minion, one of the founders of the Jersey Breeders’ Association, and presi- • dent of the New Zealand Sheep-breed-ers’ Association. lie was also prominent in civic affairs and a noted sporG- ’ man, being for many years president of 1 the Mannwntu Hunt. He is survived by a widow and six sons and four 1 daughters.
