AUCKLAND SITTINGS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 9. At the Supreme Court, Edward Welsh, a half-caste Maori, was placed on probation for two years for perjury. Mr Justice Stringer said it was not a bad case. The prisoner hart adhered to a statement that he was in a billiard room when the evidence showed that he was in the street. The case arose out of a charge of playing two-up. Godfrey Addington Fleet Otway, aged 22, and a youth of 21 years were each placed on for two years and ordered to make restitution of £l3 4s 4d each, for breaking, entering, and theft at Mareretu post office two years ago. Otway was ordered to find £lOO surety for his good behaviour. His accomplice’s name was suppressed because he played a minor part.
