HUNTERVILLE NOTES

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. The annual general meeting of the Hunterville Chamber of Commerce was held on Friday night, Mr L. C. Jennins presiding. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £5 3s 7d. The following were elected as the Council for the year: —Messrs Berry, Jennins, Towers, Stevens, Bowick, O’Brien and Powell. Mr L. C. Jennins was re-elected president, Mr Towers vice-president, and Mr Brock secretary. Mr Bowick brought up the question of telephone service after 5 p.m. At present visitors had to use a private ’phone as one was not available at the Post Office after hours.—Mr Bowick was appointed to inquire from the Postmaster. Considerable discussion took place in regard to lack of accommodation for the Fire Brigade and need of rest room, etc., in the town. It was eventually decided that the chamber recommend the Town Board to obtain first refusal of the building opposite the Courthouse in Milne Street, with the object, of purchasing and using the building and section for a fire station, office, etc. Messrs Towers, Berry and Brock were appointed to wait on the Town Board, and place the question before members. RATA DAIRY FARMERS’ UNION. The following officials have been appointed for the above newly-formed union:—President, Mr C. McManaway; vice-president, Mr G. Harvey; secreary, Mr P. Nisbet; committee, Messrs W. E. Gibbs, P. Green, L. Green, H. Rose and officers ex officio. SHOOTING. MINIATURfc RIFLE CLUB, The following are the scores of the second shoot for a trophy donated by Mr E. Woods:—

GENERAL NEWS. Dj. Mitchell (Hunterville) and Mr A. J. Joblin (Taihape) have been nominated for the Northern Ward vacancy on the Wanganui Education Board. In last week’s Gazette the following <’entlemen arc nnnointed trustees of the Hunterville Public Cemetery: Messrs A. G. Simpson, T. A. Duuean, R. G. Dalzicll, 8. A. R. Mair. H. J. D. -McManaway, W. H. Bowick, and T. G. Taylor.
