AMERICA’S POPULATION
SYDNEY, July 1. Lecturing at Sydney University, Professor Lichtenberger, of Pennsylvania, declared that the growth of America’s population, from ten millions in 1820 to 110 millions at present, was almost purely genetic. He said the Immigration Commission of 1907 found that forty per cent, of those who had up to that time emigrated to America had returned to the countries -whence they came. The percentage of forign-born people in the United States was fourteen. This figure had not varied much in past years. Professorm Lichtenberger described the United States as overwhelmingly Anglo-Saxon.
