EGYPT AND SUDAN

LONDON OFFICIAL OPINION. MERELY POLITICAL MOVE. Received June 30, 8.30 p.m. (Sun). LONDON, June 29. The Daily Mail says: London officials acquainted with Egyptian affairs attach little importance to Zaghlul’s action in proffering the resignation of the Government. It is merely a political move. Zaghlul knows well that no British Government could betray itself, its pledges, its officials’ life work, and British commerce, by handing over the Sudan. Zaghlul is adopting an extreme attitude in order to forestall any rival adopting it. If, thereafter, the Egyptian Chamber maintains him in office, as is likely, he will thereby be in a position to negotaite with Britain in order to get the best terms he can, though formally he docs not accept Britain’s right to retain the Sudan.
