DUNEDIN EXHIBITION
FIRST SOD TURNED. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 29. An important stage in the big exhibition propect was reached on Saturday, when the first sod was turned on Logan Park, on which an immediate start will be made with the erection of the Exhibition buildings. Every care was taken to mark the historic occasion with a fitting and memorable ceremonial. A comprehensive and impressive procession marched through the main streets in the afternoon, with an advance guard of 300 Boy Scouts led by the Kaikorai Band. Then followed a great array of motor-cars, headed by the president (Mr J. Sutherland Ross), Mr H. L. Tapley (Mayor), Sir John Roberts, and the Exhibition directors. Logan Park was gaily decorated for the occasion. Addresses were given by the president, Mr J. S. Ross, and the Mayor, and then the actual ceremony of turning the first sod was proceeded with. The architect, Mr E. Anscombe, presented, on behalf of the directors and shareholders, a silver-mounted spade to Mr Russ and a handsome greenstone model of a spade to Mr Tapley.
