AFTER THE ASHES ENGLISH TEAM TO TOUR AUSTRALIA. LONDON, June 9. The Daily Express states that it is probable the English team for Australia will be: A. E. Gilligan (capt.), Wood, Sutcliffe, Chapman, C. H. Gibson, Hobbs, Hearne, Hendren, Woolley Tate, Parkin, Kilner, Bowley, Gearey, Smith (of Gloucester) or Duckworth (of Lancashire). , Contrary to the earliest impression, Hobbs is likely to make the tour if his wife can acompany him. Hearne's health is not too good—a sea voyage and the heat will not suit him—but he is anxious to go to Australia again. Business will prevent Fender from going. MacLaren regards Gibson, who is now in the Argentine, as the best bowler in the world. SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR MATCH WITH CAMBRIDGE. LONDON, June 9. The South Africans, on a slow and easy wicket, lost the remaining five wickets in 50 minutes. The South Africans in taeir nrst innings made 334, Nourse 144. Jeacock made 68, Hobbs 203, and did not finish. Notts made 115 for three wickets. At Southampton, Kent made 293 (Collins 54) against Hampshire, 62. Woolley took four wickets for 30. Freeman four for 16. Hampshire followed on and made 122 (Mead 72). Yorkshire, against Lancashire, a’; Leeds, compiled 130. Parkin took five for 46, and R. Tyldesley four for 69. Lancashire scored 74. Macau ley took four for 108 and Kilner four for 13. Porkshire have lost none for one in their first innings. OFFER TO HENDRY. MAY GO TO MELBOURNE. H. L. Hendry, one of New South Wales’ best all-round cricketers, is seriously considering advances made to him by a Melbourne club. It is quite possible that he will go south to play next season, but he has not yet made a definite answer. In recent years Melbourne clubs have shown a desire to capture Sydney cricketers, the Carlton Club being particularly active in getting Frank O’Keeffe and H. S. Love, both interstate men. Hendry has just finished a fine season, during which he batted better than ever before, and he is likely to be one of this country’s hopes for some seasons to come. He would be a great loss to New South Wales, and Victoria would benefit greatly his acquisition.
