BRITISH COMMONWEALTH
LABOUR CONFERENCE POSTPONED.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 7.
It had been proposed to hold this year in Britain a conference of representatives of various Labour parties throughout the British commonwealth of nations. The South African Labour Party appointed five of its members to be present, but since that decision was made South Africa has embarked upon an election campaign, which has made it impossible for South Africa to be represented. The British Trades Union Congress and the British Labour Party have exchanged cablegrams with Labour parties in various Dominions on the subject, and the New Zealand Labour Party has now received a message from the Home Secretary (Right Hon. Arthur Henderson) stating that owing to the inability of South Africa to be represented because of the election there, it is considered advisable to postpone the British Commonwealth Labour Conference. It is anticipated that the conference will now take place in February, March or April of next year.
