The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has received the following cable from its London Office dated May 2, 1924, advising the Smithfield delivered prices at that date as follows: N.Z. wethers and maidens.—Canterbury quality, selected brands: 56/under, 7 j-8d per lb.; 57/64, 6 7-8 d; 65/72, 6 3-Sd. Other brands: 56/under, 6 5-8 d; 57/64, 6 3-8 d; 65/72, 6 l-Bd. N.Z. ewes: 64/under, 5 l-Bd. N.Z. lamb, Canterbury quality: 36/under, lOAd; 37/42, 10*d; 43/50, 9£d; seconds, lOd. Selected brands: 36/under, 10jd; 37/42, IOAd. 9fd; seconds, 9Jd. N.Z. beef: Not Other brands, Ist quality: 42/under, 9|-d; seconds, 9jd. N.Z. beef: Not quoted. Argentine chilled beef, ox fores, 4£d; hinds, Bd. Argentine frozen beef: Ox fores, 4d; hinds, 6jd. Frozen pork: Not quoted. Mutton: Demand is better. Lamb: Market is strong, with good demand. Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents dated May 2: — Quotations ex store: New Zealand Prime Canterbury lamb, 28/42 ’s, 10jd; North Island lamb, 28/42’s, prime Canterbury mutton, 56/64 ’s, 6 7-8 d; North Island mutton, 56/64’s. 6 3-8 d; ewes, 48/64’s, 5 l-8d; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160/220’s, hinds, none; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160/220’s, fores, none. As compared with last week’s quotations, Canterbury lamb is 3-8 d dearer, North Island lamb |d dearer, otherwise no change. FROZEN MEAT. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date of May 1: — Lamb: N.Z. prime crossbred lamb, Canterbury, heavy, 9Jd; Canterbury, light, 10|d; North Island, heavy, 9 l-8d; North Island, light, 9 7-Bd. Demand for New Zealand lamb is better. Market is very firm and tending upwards. Mutton: N.Z. prime crossbred mutton, Canterbury, heavy, 6d; Canterbury, light, 7d; North Island, heavy, 6d; North Island, light, 6|d- Demand for New Zealand mutton is moderate. Market is dull. Australian frozen meat is not quoted. DAIRY PRODUCE. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date of May 1: Butter market is very quiet. We quote New Zealand salted, 172 s (1645); New Zealand exceptional brands, 178 s (168 s Danish, 200 s (1725). Finest Australian salted 162 s (1545), unsalted; 166 s (1565). Cheese market is slow. Quotations for New Zealand white, 86s (87s); coloured, 88s (87s). (Last week’s quotations are shown in parenthesis). WOOL. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the followingcable from their London house under date of May 2:— Liverpool Bawra wool sales: At the wool sales 44,800 bales were offered and all sold. Active demand from Continental and English buyers. Prices were fully on a par with last London sales’ closing rates. London wool sales: The sales will be suspended on May 12 owing to the French election, re-opening on May 13. The closing date of the sales is May 21.
