EMPIRE EXHIBITION
KING AND QUEEN PAY SURPRISE VISIT LONDON. May 4. The King and Queen accompanied by the Duke and Duchess of York and Prince Axel of Denmark, paid an informal surprise visit to the Empire Exhibition, and devoted themselves to the Palaces of Engineering and Industry and Fine Arts. Here and there the King chatted with the exhibitors and the ginlis at the various stands. His Majesty was specially interested in the Great Western, "1-ke the one I drove at Swindon.,” as he said to the Queen. The latter examined in detalil the process of baking cakes in an electric oven and disussed the respective advantages of cooking by electricity, gas and coal. The King, to the amusement of the party, weighed himself ton an automatic machine, which registered 153 pounds.
