ITALIAN VILLAGES OVERWHELMED FAMOUS CONVENT DESTROYED By Telegraph.—Press Association. Copyright. Beceived March 27, 9.30 p.m. ROME, March 26. Landslides in Amalfi, owing to the overflowing of the river Canneto, destroyed the famous Capucin Convent. Fifty villagers are dead, and grave fears are entertained for the safety of tourists staying in Capucin and Amalfi hotels. Torpedo boats arrived in Amalfi harbour to render assistance to the populace.
Others were killed at Praiano and Concamarino.
