WHAT HALF-CROWN EXTRA PER DAY MEANS. A TOTAL OF £2,093,830. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 27. Information as to the cost involved if the 2a 6d per day increase as applied for by the A.S.R.S. for members of the second division were extended to cover all members of the Public Service was placed before the Railway Wages Board to-day. The chairman (Mr. Acland) said that, recognising the fact that if railwaymen were granted increases, rises might have to be given in other branches of the service, and that it affected the whole community, he had asked for a return. Mr. Sterling submitted the return, showing that the estimated number of persons employed by the Government at March 26, 1924, was 53,163, and the estimated cost t>( an all-round increase of 2s 6d per diem would be £2,093,830, including, in the case of the railwaymen, £13,830 for overtime. . '
