GENERAL CABLES

The appeal was upheld. The steamer Benandra missed high tide when going outwards at Moruya (N.S.W.) but crossed the bar and encountered heavy breakers. She then struck a sandspit, and the next sea turned her broadside on, and, seas breaking over her, she became a total wreck. Work was resumed at two of the northern mines (N.S.W.), but there were three fresh disputes, increasing the number of idle pits to ten. The Queensland Government has decided not to proclaim a special holiday during the visit of the Fleet. The London Daily Telegraph’s Berlin correspondent states that the wife of a superior official in the Law Courts has been arrested on suspicion of murdering two husbands, a mother-in-law and a brother-in-law. It is alleged that as a result of the deaths of her first husband, his mother, and brother, the accused inherited the family’s wealth.
