BURNSIDE STOCK SALE.

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 26. All departments were well supplied with stock at the Burnside sales today, and the supply in some instances was in excess of; requirements. This applied more especially to the fat cattle entry, which suffered noticeable reduction in prices in consequence, the depreciation being from 30s to 40s per head. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 341 compared with 221 last week. The entry included several pens of nice bullocks from Southland, and an extra large draft from Taieri plains. Prices were down to from 30s to 40s per head. Prime handy weight bullocks sold at from 30s to 32s per 1001 b; extra heavy bullocks, from 27s 6d to 29s Gd; good heifers, to 225, and cows and light heifers, from 17s to 19s; extra prime heavyweight bullocks sold up to £l5; prime, £ll 5s to £l3; medium, £9 10s to £lO 15s; light and unfinished sorts, £7 to £9; prime cow and heifers sold from £5 10s to £6; medium, £3 15s to £4 15s; light, and aged, to £3 10s.

Fat Sheep.—23os were penned compared with 2468 last week. Very few extra prime heavyweight wethers were included in the entry, and this class consequently sold well. Medium and lightweight wethers, and also all classes of ewes, were sold at a reduction of from Is to 2s per head. Several pens of lightweight wethers were passed unsold. Prime handy weight wethers made up to 6Jd; prime heavyweights, to 51d and 5Jd. prime heavy ewes, 4Jd to 4Jd; prime handy weight ewes, 4Jd to sd; aged and light, to 4d and ;4 ld; extra prime heavy wethers made up to 445; prime, 38s to 42s 9d; medium, 32s 9d to 36s 6d; lighter sorts, 31s; extra prime heavy ewes made up to 365; prime. 27s to 31s 6d; medium. 19s to 20s 3d; light and aged, 16s tp 18s. Fat Lambs.—l2so penned, compared with 1256 last week. The quality was only fair, unfinished lines being much too plentiful. There was steady demand for all classes, butchers, and export buyers and graziers being keen competitors. Prices realised were fully equal to last week’s rates, prime lamb being worth from 91d to 9id per lb. Extra prime lambs sold up to 355; prime, 29s to 32s 3d; medium, 26s to 28s; light and unfinished sorts, 21s to 24s 9d. Store Cattle.—A full yarding, numbering over 260 head compared with 150 head last week. The entry included several pens of splendid fat cattle from Otago, and other districts. These were sold at prices ranging from £2 to £3 10s per head. Butchers were operators for a line of fat heifers which were sold up to £5 Ils per head. The bulk of the entry comprised young cattle, which were almost unsalable. Dairy Cattle.—A larger yarding than usual, over forty head being offered. The entry included some splendid cows which mot with good competition. The best cows sold up £ll 10s; heifers, £8 10s to £9, and aged cows, £5 to £6. Fat Pigs.-—Full yarding, all classes being represented. Competition was keen, especially for prime baconers, and a good sale resulted. To-day’s prices for prime baconers are on a basis of about 7Jd and for prime porkers, about BJd per lb.
