THE WADE TRAGEDY

Received March 6, 7.15 p.m. I SYDNEY, March 6.

At the inquest on Mr and Mrs Wade, whose dead bodies were found in their room on February 19, a doctor who attended Mrs Wade for several years gave evidence that she was suffering from an incurable disease, and was not sound mentally. Wade was very worried about his wife’s condition, but refused to entertain the doctor’s suggestion to place her in a public institution. He did not impress the doctor as being mentally unstable. A friend of Wade’s gave evidence that the couple lived on most affectionate terms. Wade was worried during the past few months. He often said he would shoot himself owing to business worries, but never said anything about his wife. Other evidence was similar to that already cabled.

A verdict was returned that Wade murdered his wife and then committed suicide.
