WANGANUI MOTOR BOAT AND SAILING CLUB
NOTES BY “BO’SUN' ’ The first sailing race since the formation of the club was held on Saturday over a coarse frun below the Town Bridge to a point opposite Imlay Wharf, twice round. Seven boats were entered, but only three faced the starter, Mr. Clark’s “Rumour,” Mr. A. Abernethy's “Skimova,” and Mr. McKillop’s “Iris.” The boats got well away to a patchy b-eeze, “Rumour,” skippered by H. Willis, having a slight advantage, with “Iris,” (Mr. McKillop) second, and “Skimova,” (R. Knewstubb) a few seconds off third, off the mark. “Iris” improved her position, and was leading till opposite the Harboui Board’s slip, where her rudder carried away and she dropped out, returning under her jib. “SkimovaJ’ moved up to the lead, and held it right throughout the race, crossing the Ijne five minutes ahead of “Iris” on first round, and increasing her lead to llmin 45sec on the second round, thus winning by Imin 42sec The following are the times: “Skimova” (scr.) 58min 42soc. “Iris” (lOmin 20sec),l hr. lOmin. 42sec. Also started, “Rumour.”
