Peach and Jordan are the strongest doubles players of the team, but the latter is unable to lake part as he strained a muscle when practising at Auckland. He hopes to have his arm til for the test match at Christchurch. Goodman and Poulton are sound baseline players ami are difficult tu beat. Reid and Pike arc young members. Their play’ tends td be brilliant and they’ are showing form at present, as their win against Wallace and Dickie shows. The usual doubles combinations, in order to have a good base line man with a net player, are Peach and Poulton; Goodman and Jordon. The combinations that were played at New Plymouth were more or less in the nature of a try-out made necessary by r Jordan ’s injury. Peach, Jordan and Goodman have won in several Australian doubles ' championships. Jordan has been twice i runner-up in the Queensland champion- ; ship, and won the Plate Singles at MelI bourne. Poulton has won a country eham pionship in N.S.W. and also won a doubles championship at Stratfield last year. The other men. Reid and Pike, have good country performances. Peach and Jordan have both had experience in inter-State play and have played against Victoria, which was the leading State. Goodman has also played in inter State tennis a number of tinre*. but not against Victoria. Poulton has played once against A ictoria. Mr. AfcKay. manager of the team, was at one time secretary of the New South AVales Lawn Tennis Association , and was a very popular official. CIVIC RECEPTION At the railway station yesterday afternoon, the visitors were nuM by members ofc the local Tennis Association and Mr. Veitch, M.P.. and motored to the Council Chambers, where they were accorded a civic reception.
