INTER-VARSITY MATCH (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. May 28. ’Hie inter-university hockey match Otago v. Victoria College, was played on Karori Park and resulted in a draw. The ground was in a bad condition, and during the game heavy showers of rain fell. .Play for the most part was very ragged, although there were some bright flashes. Otago had slightly the best of the first half, but in spite of their determine ! attacks were unable to penetrate the Wellington defence, and at half time there was no score. The second half was very even. Soon after starting Bridgeman lanared for Otago, and shortly afterwards Foiden brought the score level again. Bridgeman. Button and Davies were most prominent- of the Otago players, while F<4>d* n . Cousins and Hair played well for Victoria College In the match between Technical College .Old Boys and Phoenix, played on Cook’s Gardens, on May 26th, the play was of a very fair standard. the game being fast throughout. It was only after a hard struggle that the Old Boys managed to gain a victory over last year’s cup winners, the scores being: Old Boys 4, Phoenix 1. The brilliant start and the evenness of the teams go to show that this season’s play will prove very exciting, and each match will be a hard struggle for victory. As the season has now commenced, all intending players should hand in their names as soon as possible. There are still one or two vacancies in the Old Boys’ team for which application should be forwarded to J. W. Palmer (secretary) or C. R. Harkness, c/o T. B. Harkness and Son, 85 Ridgway St., without delay.
