GENERAL NEWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Owing to the drivers being unable io select a team m the match for the Todd Cup (arranged for this afternoon cn the Park), the match has been abandoned. It is on the cards that a ladies’ football match will be played on the Marton Park within the next three weeks. The proceeds will go to the Queen Carnival funds in aid of Miss Leonore Wilkie. It is stated that twenty-five of the fair sex are already in training. The Marton seniors to travel to lluntcrvillo to-day will be picked from the following:—Hegglun, Strombom, Hansen, Wilson, Winter, Fendall, O’Keefe, S. Henderson, J. Morris, A. McDonald, Coleman, F. Knox, MoSweeney, Christensen, Larsen, Fleming, Rodgers, McMillan. The following will represent Marten Hockey Club in their match against Feilding Rovers on Marton Park this afternoon : —Gome, Simpson, Hunter, Brown, Whitehead, Barrington, Ix> Comte. Cooper, Me J arrow (2), Kilgour. Emergency: McKenzie The long-night dance held in the Marton District High School on Thursday evening was one of the most sue- 1 cessful functions yet held by the Ladies’ Welfare League*. The proceeds go to the District High School Queen (M’ss Sutcliffe). The floor was in excellent order, and its utmost capacity was taxed by the big attendance. The music supplied by the Marton Orchestra, under the leadership of Mr C. Edwards (piano), consisted cf a first-class selection of dance music, and the orchestia fully sustained the reputation it has gained for its excellent selections. Extras were played by Misses Reid, Avery, Marr and Sutcliffe. Messrs Gracie, Gorrie, Fletcher and Mogridge acted as M.’sC., and supper was dispensed by several members of the Welfare League. M ednesday half-holiday at Marton comes into force next Wednesday, when the shops will ciuse at 12 noon and remain open till 9 o'clock on Saturday nights. The following will represent Hunterville seniors against Marton at Hunterville this afternoon:—Coleman. R. Carruthers, R. Me Alley. Ellen*, Henwood, Wills Alderton. Still. McAlinden, Tngpen, Dalziell, Simpson, Berrett, I listen, Higgins. Emergencies: Wheeler, Laird. G. Carruthers. The following team will represent Rata seniors against Turakina, at Turakina this afternoon :—AV. Terry, J. Potaka, P. Poiak.i, M. Down, G. Hartley, Peina, H. K’ngi, J. Cameron, J. Hartley. A. Cameron. F. Hayward, A. Harre. F. Heise, McDonald, N. Signal. Emergencies: F. Dunham. D. Downs. The third match between the English and Presbyterian Bible Class football teams (juniors) was played on the Marton Park on Friday afternoon and resulted in the English team winning the ‘‘ rubber,” the game ending in a victory for them by 14 points to 8. For the v. inners Dickson and Carey scored tries, both of which were converted by Sutcliffe and N. Stevens drop-kicked a goal. For the losers. G. Prince scored a t.ry which Wilkie converted, and Porter also scored a try. Air P. Gould refereed.
