It was decided to enter a team for the Romney Cup competition. Colours are to be royal blue and black, (halves), and the membership fee was fixed at 5/. Application is to be xnade to the Rugby Union for 15 per cent, of gate money on days when hockey and football matches are played. Mr Grade was asked to represent the Club at the public meeting to be held on Tuesday next to discuss the procuring of playing grounds for children. The meeting endorsed the movement in favour of Saturday halfholiday. In appreciation of services rendered. the caretaker of the Park (Mr F. Bryan) was voted a donation ot £1 1/. GENERAL NEWS. The Tokorangi Football Club has selected Halcombe as its home groupd. The fixtures will be drawn up next week, and the first cup matches will be played on April 28. Marton Golf Club opens the season ibis (Saturday) afternoon with a mixed foursome. Afternoon tea will be supplied at the accommodation house. Mr Harry Fox has been, appointed secretary of the lliunterville Football Club. The Marton Park has never looked better for the opening of the football season than at present. The lines have been neatly marked by a “turned” sod, goal posts painted and padded, and the ground is in ex-
cellent order. The same remark applies to the hockey ground on the western aide. The Marton lodies’ hockey team play Hinekoas (Feilding), at Marton this afternoon in a friendly match, and Marton football seniors and ?,laris’s (Wanganui) will also have a ‘ry-out.
An interesting match fixed for today will be that between Kaieraus (Wanganui) and Rata, and I fully expect to see Rata victorious. They have the “nippiest” set of backs in the Union, and can be relied upon to play a sterling game. Mr Cyril Sutcliffe is still carrying on the duties of secretary to the Rangitikei Referees’ Association, and it is hoped to call a meeting of referees as soon as the fixtures are drawn.
