Wo regret to record the death of Mr, Peter Hairison. which took place a: .Masterton on Thursday The detea-ed was a daughter of the late .Mr and Mrs Alex Higgle, of “Blink Bonny, Wanganui. and her sudden death will conn, as a shock tA her many friends. A Ini, hand and daughter are left to mourn their sad loss.

Mr. Thomas Brook, Commlssione of Crown Lands at Invercargill, has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands at Wellington in succession to Mr. McClure, retired on. superannuation. Mr. R. S. Galbraith, commissioner of Crown Land in Westland, succeeds -Mr. Brook a Invercargill.

At the Harbour Board meeting, Mr A. G. Bignell (chairman) referred to the very sad accident which occurred al Mangahao. One of tlv victims (Mr Maxwell) was Well known. He was a type of man whom the country could ill afford '» lose, lor he was an exemplary citizen. It was regrettable that such work should be attended with loss ot lite, and he felt that it should be a lesson to the authorities that such an accident should not happen acair,. The Board felt regret for the rein tives of the other victims, but be felt the Board should send its condolences to the relatives of both Mr Miller and Mr Maxwell. Mr Bignell said he was well acquaint'd on the West Coast with the type of men who did tunneling work, and there were no liner men in ih«world.
