AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

THE GRAND, BUCK JONES IN “PARDON MY NERVE.” Few, if any, screen players of today have followed more vocations than has Charles Jones, the versatile star of William Fox pictures, who is now appearing in "Pardon My Nerve!” a new William Fox production, due at the Grand Theatre to-day and to-night. A cowboy, a . soldier of two wars, a horse buyer, la horse trainer, a circus rider, a j ranger, and what-not. These are j some of the followings of the star in pursuit of adventure before he stepped into a motion picture studio. He has forgotten a lot of them. Perhaps this accounts for his rapid success in filmland, for he was well equipped from life to take up almost any role when the call came to enter motion picture work. In fact, the rapidity of his development is a notable record in filmland. “I am of the opinion,” says the Fox star, “that an actor’s business is to act, and I have very litle patience with the type of player who just ‘fills in,’ or poses, be he extra man or star.” The supporting programme will include “Terror Trail” No. 16. Mutt and Jeff Cartoons, Fox’s World’s News, and a screaming Sunshine comedy, featuring Jimmy Saro in “Pardon Me.” Plan for to-night, to-morrow, and Saturday is now open at Grand Theatre. ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH.

This evening a concert is to be given in the Girls' College Hall by members of AU Saints’ (Wanganui East) Choir, assisted by friends. Items will be contributed by some of the best known musicians in town, and the programme to be given will be an excellent one. Besides items by the Choir, items will be contributed by the following well-known performers:—Missces D. Davies, A. Vinsen, E. Warnock, Mclntyre; Messrs E. Thomas and W. Hutchins. This does not by any means exhaust the programme, and readers will be a’zle to pudge by the excellent quality of the contributions that an enjoyable time will await them at the Girls’ College Hall this even ing. The object of the concert is a worthy one GRAND BENEFIT CONCERT. Our readers and all who are in sympathy with the movement for alleviating local distress through unemployment are askqld to keep in mind the grand benefit concert which is being promoted by St. Paul’s Choir towards augumonting the Mayor’s relief fund. A good programme is being prepared, in which leading talent will assist, but the cause of itself is worthy of an overflowing house at Everybody’s Theatre on the evening of Friday, 21st instant. The ’date has had to be altered owing to the Rugby Union’s efforts on Thursday evening.
