IMMODEST FASHIONS.

STRONG .STATEMENT BY THE POPE. APPEAL TO WOMAN’S BETTER NATURE. Received March 29, 8.30 p.m. (United Service.) LONDON, March 29. The Daily Mail’s Rome correspondent states that, according to a report from the Vatican, the Pope has ordered instructions to be prepared regarding the present immodesty of fashions for transmission to all Catholic Bishops. The present Pope is the first to specifically take exception to,women’s dress. Former Pontiffs several times exhorted women to return to more modest ways. Pius XI. began a campaign during a reception of Roman aristocracy, when he invited women to nobility to join in the crusade against certain present fashions, which he described as scandalous and indecorous. He feeis strongly on the point, because he has the highest opinion of women, and is a strong believer in their values as a powerful factor in the struggle Oi humanity to reach a higher plane.
