TURAKINA DAIRY FACTORY ANNUAL PICNIC.

The annual picnic ot the above factory was celebrated an Saturday last in Mr. J. H. McLean’s paddock. Mr. McLean’s paddock is an ideal place for a picnic and on Saturday a large and representative gathering from Turakina and the surrounding district came at the invitation of the “cow ccckies” of the factory. After lunch a lengthy and varied sports programme was conducted, being in the most capable hands of the chairman (Mr F. Johnston) and the Sports secretary Mi- L. Cameron. The duties of handicapper fell to Messrs F. Johnston and A. Norten, and Messrs A. Major, J. Day and A. Glasgow acted as judges. The events were well patronised and the finishes were exciting. The tug of war (married v. single) was the event of the day, the married men being winners by 2 pulls to 1. Thanks are due to Mr. J. H. McLean for the loan of his paddock. Messrs F. Johnston and L. Cameron for the management of the picnic, and the ladies who so kindly arranged for the eatables and who made the day such a success. Results of sports were as follows: Boy’s Race under 6. —M.
