THE FOOTBALL FATALITY.

THE INQUEST r Per Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, April 25. An inquiry into the death of Aitken, a member of the Sydenham Rugby team, which occurred during the progress of a match against Christchurch, was held yesterday. Evidence was given that deceased, who had not played football since 1908, complained of feeling unwell after tackling an opponent, and ietired. He was attended by a member of the ambulance brigade, who applied methods of resuscitation, but without effect. The coroner returned a verdict that death was due to heart failure, accelerated by the violent exercise the deceased was engaged in at the time of the accident. He further found there had been no rough play, and no apparent breach of the rules, and the collision that was t'he immediate cause of the collapse of deceased was purely accidental and unintentional.
